- Zapata, Emiliano - The revolutionary general of the south of Mexico. He led his troops in a fight whose main demand was that the land be returned to the poor people of the south. He was one of the greatest revolutionaries in the world. Was was killed in 1919, by traitors working for Venustiano Carranza. Zapata believed in freedom and equality of all people and the liberation of Mexico from foreigners. His slogan was to be "The land belongs to those that work it." and "It is better to die on your feet, than to continue living on your knees."
